Helping You Protect Your Staff Against Breast Cancer
Breast cancer rates in the UK are rising every year, with 1 in 8 women being affected by this devastating disease during their lifetime and increasingly younger women being affected. Although breast cancer is the most feared disease amongst women, very few ladies do anything to protect their breasts. In fact, most women don’t even know the risk factors and receive very little advice. GP surgeries used to offer Well Woman Clinics but these are virtually non-existent today.
From a financial point of view, companies can be impacted severely when women are off work undergoing treatment, which can last up to a year in some cases. The emotional impact on the other staff is also considerable as they are obviously concerned for their fellow employee.
Breast Health Presentations For Your Female Staff
Best Think Pink is an organisation which offers breast health presentations in the workplace to help companies reduce the effects of breast cancer on their staff.
The presentation covers the following topics:
- Breast cancer statistics in the UK
- The risk factors (acknowledged and potential) and why all women are at risk
- Why women should be looking after their breasts
- Simple steps for healthier breasts
- How to check your breasts
Breast Health Educator – Nikki Mattei
Nikki Mattei founded Best Think Pink in 2007 in order to share breast health information with women and give practical advice on what they can do to protect their breasts. Women are encouraged to talk openly about breast health and empower themselves to take control of their own. There is so much information available on breast cancer and yet most women are not well informed. All the facts are presented in a way which women can understand and relate to.
After having talked with hundreds of women and gathered their views on breast health, presentations were first offered in the workplace in 2008 due to strong interest from companies who are committed to providing information to their staff to enable them to protect their health.
Nikki has supported Breast Cancer UK since 2007 and worked actively with them from May 2008 to April 2009, attending events and taking part in meetings of their Board of Trustees.
Hosting a Breast Health Presentation
The presentation usually takes place over a lunch time and lasts about an hour. The charge is £200 + VAT for one session for up to 40 ladies. This represents as little as £5 per person and would be money well spent even if one less woman were diagnosed with breast cancer in the first place or was diagnosed at an early stage.
The company is provided with a promotional timetable with emails and a poster for promoting the event to the female staff within the company.
Information for male staff to share with their partners is also provided.

Testimonials
Best Think Pink has worked with a variety of different sized companies and has always received excellent feedback from the hosting company and the female staff attending.
“All the women who attended the Breast Health Presentation came away with useful information, including facts they weren't aware of before. I feel sure that most of us decided to be more proactive about looking after our breasts . It was well presented and well received and I am sure many, as I have done, have also passed the knowledge to our female friends and family as well." Julie Morris, Health & Safety Coordinator, Hertsmere Borough Council.
“I was asked to arrange an event for our Employee Well-being initiative and came across Best Think Pink through our Occupational Health Nurse. As I work within a busy HR department I was conscious about how much time I could spend organising this but was pleasantly surprised how easy Nikki made the whole process; all it took was one phone call! The promotional literature provided was excellent and very effective in encouraging ladies to attend the presentation. The event itself was greatly received, and all who attended commented on how informative and useful it was. I will definitely look forward to working closely with Best Think Pink again in the future to promote health issues amongst our female employees!” Nicola Leighfield, HRD Graduate, Janssen Cilag Ltd
“We all found the presentation interesting and informative. It was thought provoking and provided us with information that we wouldn’t have considered. Those of us that bought the Breast Check Kit feel confident to check our breasts and even if that is the only change that we make it will be an important step!” Karen Ferguson, 4-Tech Security.
"The Breast Health Presentation was extremely informative. We all learnt things we didn't know about breast cancer and how to be proactive about looking after our breasts. I am sure that a lot of us will be taking a different approach to how we look after our breast health in the future." Sarah Buy, Community Co-ordinator, The Midcounties Co-operative (The Co-op)
“As an organisation, we place a lot of emphasis on employee well-being. The follow up feedback from our employees was very positive, some of whom took away breast health kits with them and have helped to spread the word to their friends and family. I would highly recommend Best Think Pink to other organisations". Mandeep Dhillon, Human Resources Specialist, Audley Travel
"The Breast Health Presentation by Best Think Pink was very well received by the ladies in our company and, personally, I got a lot from attending. I know that many of the ladies have decided to take a different approach to their own breast health as a result." Pauline Marchant, Facilities Manager, Nielsen
“Organising a breast health talk from Best Think Pink was a very easy process. Every detail was thought of to make it a smooth and hassle free process. I was particularly impressed with the level of communication from Nikki herself, very proactive and helpful without being overwhelming! In terms of the actual talk the consensus was that it was very valuable. We were given a great deal of information on breast health in a way that was neither scary nor patronising. We all felt empowered to make our own choices. I would highly recommend the breast health talk to any organisation that cares about the wellbeing of its staff.”
Holly Jones, Development Advisor, Cosine UK
